Fishing

Fishing at Bear Lake is a year-round attraction for anglers of all skill levels, offering a rich and rewarding experience amid breathtaking natural surroundings. Known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and impressive fish populations, Bear Lake is often referred to as the “Caribbean of the Rockies”—and it’s just as appealing to fishermen as it is to sightseers.

The lake is home to a variety of sought-after fish species, including trophy-sized lake trout, Bonneville cutthroat trout, and the unique Bonneville cisco, a fish species found only in Bear Lake. Anglers can enjoy multiple fishing methods here, including shore fishing along the lake’s expansive beaches, boat fishing in deeper waters, and ice fishing during the winter months when the lake freezes over.

Local marinas and outfitters provide boat rentals, fishing gear, and even guided fishing trips for those looking to maximize their chances of landing a big catch. Popular fishing spots include the east side of the lake near Cisco Beach and the deeper waters off Garden City. In January, Bear Lake even hosts the Cisco Disco, a unique winter event where locals and visitors gather to catch cisco by dipping nets through holes in the ice.

Fishing licenses are required and can be easily purchased online or at nearby vendors. Whether you're casting a line at sunrise from the shore or venturing out on a fishing boat, Bear Lake offers an unforgettable experience for any angler—complete with stunning views, crisp mountain air, and the thrill of a great catch.
